  Sorry mate but i live in Wales (conwy UK), the states are the main fan base for hicks and leary and i work in the media (TV editor) and every Channel 4 top 100 is 10% voted by the public and the rest is thrown together with common knowlage and common sence (dead people get higher vote). I also said i was a bill hicks fan. I know they respected each other and were friends and they arnt the same. in fact i never saw them as the same until students started rabbiting on that they were.

  I don’t know where you are, but Hicks is a massive name in Europe, and number 6 on the Channel 4 100 greatest comedians of all time (I know that’s only in the UK, but it still counts for something). Leary may not have stolen from him, but he knew and admired him before all of the plagiarism stuff happened, and was definitely influenced by him, so at least give Hicks his due.

  It’s an urban myth that he stole from Hicks but I wish he was edgy and wasn’t as PC as he has become. He did Oprah for crying out loud .. Billy Connolly’s the only comedian who is as raw now as when he started out.

  p.s, Denis can also act and that helps when your trying to convince a live audience to laugh and believe your words. I wonder, if Denis had died and Bill was still here would any one have heard of Bill in 2009? Long live Bill Hicks tho, But the king isnt dead, long live Denis.

  Im a Bill HIcks fan. Denis did not steel from HIcks. In fact the only similarity was the political or cultural topic of the time. And to be fair Denis was more shocking and over the top zany with his opinions. Oh, a lot of Denis’ shows were before Hicks’. Lets face it Hicks was the nerdy shock comedien of the early 90’s and Denis was the Rocker, in your face comedian that the 90’s really wanted, Hicks wasnt as famous as Denis at the time never mind after his death for University geek lovers.

  (cont.)…it’s all been said and done by someone before so it’s pretty difficult to be 100% original at this point. I am sure at some point in his act there were people out there that said Bill Hicks ripped someone else off. I am sure Bill Hicks wasn’t the first pissed off comedian in history.

  as it turns out, shortly after I posted that comment I went and looked up Bill Hicks on here and watched some of his videos, he was pretty funny. But to say that Denis stole some of his material isn’t right. About the only similarity I noticed is they are both pissed off comics that like to push the envelope, doesn’t mean Denis ripped him off. There are tons of comedians out there that have the same comedy style., and it’s inevitable that some of them might talk about the same thing…(cont.)

  okay, firstly, who the hell is Bill Hicks? Secondly, “Why We Suck” was awesome. I read it twice. Literally finished it one night when I was working third shift, turned the book back over, and started reading it again. Loved it. I always liked Denis Leary, but when he said in his book, “Anna Nicole may have been the first public example of babies who are better off with their birth mothers erased.” he became my hero. Keep doing what you do Denis!!
